Ground Worries For Doire

Tony Martin has voiced his concern about the prospect of quick ground at Aintree ahead of Dun Doire's bid for John Smith's Grand National glory.

The eight-year-old is a best-priced 10-1 with totesport for Saturday's feature but Martin has admitted drying ground would not be ideal for his runner.

'I'd have been delighted if it was run on the ground we had at February time ? soft, deep ground ? as he's an old-fashioned jumping horse and he doesn't have very much speed,' admitted Martin.

'Everyone saw last year at Cheltenham when he came from a long way back and he didn't even look like he was going to be placed.

'I'd love it if the ground was deep and heavy but they do have four and a half miles to go which should help him.

'I think he is an old-fashioned type of National horse and if there is any ease in the ground, I think he will run a big race.

'One thing about the English tracks such as Aintree and Cheltenham is that they produce lovely jumping ground. It will be safe enough.

'It might be too quick for him to get involved though and he might not be good enough, that's the only concern I have,' Martin told At The Races.
