Group One Cheveley Park Stakes Attracts 93 Entries

The £170,000 Group One Cheveley Park Stakes always reveals major clues to the following season's fillies' Classics and this year's race, which takes place over six furlongs of Newmarket's famous NatWest Rowley Mile Course on Friday, October 5, is sure to continue the tradition with 93 fillies engaged at the initial entry stage.

The strong entry is headed by six of the best two-year-old fillies seen this season, You'resothrilling, Nijoom Dubai, Elletelle, Fleeting Spirit, Visit & Natagora.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained You'resothrilling, one of 12 fillies entered by the Ballydoyle handler, scored a length victory over the Harry Dunlop-trained Festoso in the six-furlong Group Two Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket's July Course on July 11, with the fast-finishing Elletelle overcoming a terrible start to snatch third.

The Ger Lyons-trained Elletelle previously won the Group Two Queen Mary Stakes over five furlongs at Royal Ascot in June, when she had the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Starlit Sands in second, The Loan Express, trained by Tommy Stack in third and Francesca d'Gorgio, fifth in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes for Jeremy Noseda, back in fourth.

Nijoom Dubai, winner of the Group Three Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot from You'resothrilling, could, along with stable companion Nahoodh, third to Albabilia in an Ascot maiden on July 27, bid to give trainer Mick Channon and owner Jaber Abdullah their second success together in the Cheveley Park Stakes after the brilliant Queen's Logic's victory in 2001. Channon, who also scored with Seazun in 1999, has entered Missit and Top Vision as well.

O'Brien's dozen includes the usual raft of immaculately-bred individuals including Listed Saoire Stakes winner Listen, Horatio Nelson's Rock Of Gibraltar half-sister Kitty Matcham, who is out of dual classic winner Imagine, the unraced Sadler's Wells filly My Dark Rosaleen, a sister to Group Two winner Silk And Scarlet, and crack sprinter Cassandra Go's daughter Halfway To Heaven.

Noseda saddled Wannabe Grand (1998) and Carry On Katie (2003) to success and his four-strong entry also includes Nottingham maiden winner and yesterday's Betfair Molecomb Stakes scorer Fleeting Spirit, while Sir Michael Stoute, successful with Regal Rose in 2000, Gay Gallanta in 1994 and the exceptional Marwell in 1980, has the Khalid Abdulla-owned Visit, who recently captured Ascot's six-furlong Princess Margaret Stakes impressively on only her second start, as well as Mistress Greeley.

The French-trained challenge consists of Natagora from Pascal Bary's yard, who has won her last four starts including the Group Two Prix Robert Papin on July 22, the Richard Gibson-trained Chasing Moonbeams, a winner at Maisons-Laffitte on July 22, the Robert Collet-trained Miss Denmark and Zaltana from the formidable Andre Fabre stable.

Criquette Head-Maarek trained three excellent winners of the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes from her French base (Ma Biche (1982), Ravinella (1987) and Pas De Reponse)) and has Blush Tone engaged this time.

Peter Chapple-Hyam's entry includes Cape Amber, a very easy Newmarket maiden winner Laureldean Gale, a 16/1 chance for next year's 2,000 Guineas, and Polar Circle, who won the Listed Clipper Logistics Empress Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket's July Course on June 30, when she had Highland Daughter in third.

In all, there are 25 Irish-trained entries, including Ken Condon's Tipperary Listed winner Porto Marmay and Sharleez, who won her sole start in a Fairyhouse maiden for owner the Aga Khan and trainer John Oxx on July 22.

Manton trainer Brain Meehan secured back-to-back wins in the prestigious Group One race in 2004 and 2005 with Magical Romance and Donna Blini. He has entered Careless Freedom, Fashion Rocks, Jennie Jerome, Lady Aquitaine, Rosaleen, and Sweet Kiss.

Indian Ink landed the Cheveley Park Stakes for trainer Richard Hannon last term before scoring a stunning victory in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in June this year. The trainer has two entries for 2007, the once-raced Kempton maiden winner Reel Gift and Listed winner Sweepstake, who was third in the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot on July 29.

Henry Cecil, yet to win the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes, has entered the well-bred Crystany, fourth on her debut in a maiden at Newmarket in June, who runs today at Goodwood.

Marcus Tregoning has engaged the unraced Amhooj, a Green Desert filly out of 1995 1,000 Guineas winner Harayir (third in the 1994 Cheveley Park Stakes), as well as Lille Ida, a daughter of Hawk Wing, and Shabiba, while John Dunlop has easy Lingfield maiden winner Festivale.

The £170,000 Group One Cheveley Park Stakes takes place on day two of the prestigious three-day Cambridgeshire Meeting (Thursday, October 4, to Saturday, October 6) at Newmarket's NatWest Rowley Mile Course.
