Gulf To Go On Trial

Arabian Gulf will have his mettle tested in a Vodafone Derby trial in the coming weeks following his victory in the opening contest at the Newmarket Craven meeting.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained son of Sadler's Wells came home best of all in a 10-furlong maiden on Wednesday, after which he was given 33-1 quote with Coral for the premier Classic.

Connections were unsure of an action plan immediately after the race, but owner Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe said today that a trip to Epsom has not been ruled out.

'We will look at a Derby trial of some sort and see how we go,' Grimthorpe commented.

'He is a late-developing horse so Epsom might be too much too soon, but the horse will tell us.'
