Haydock ready for feature meeting

Haydock Park`s Stg£1million refurbishment will be completed in time for Saturday`s De Vere Gold Cup day.

Redevelopment work on the weighing room, winners` enclosure and parade ring has taken eight months.

It comes in time for the this week`s meeting where the feature race is the £100,000 De Vere Gold Cup - the richest handicap steeplechase so far in this British jump racing season.

The new weighing room, which is already being used by jockeys and racing officials, is adjacent to the paddock, while the winners` enclosure now forms part of the entire parade ring complex with new spectator viewing steps.

Haydock Park`s general manager Adam Waterworth said: 'It`s an excellent improvement both for the professionals who visit the racecourse and for racegoers who can now enjoy a better spectacle in one of the most picturesque paddocks in British racing.

'Racegoers have been very patient throughout the work, and building work on a new Tote position and bar area within the old weighing room in the Tommy Whittle grandstand will continue for several months. We also still have some improvements to make to the paddock area once this work is finished, but it has been a great team effort to get the weighing room and parade ring completed ahead of our original target date.'
