Hoc decision to be left late

No decision will be made until 'the last minute' over whether Ad Hoc will run at Wincanton on Saturday, it was revealed today.

The Paul Nicholls-trained runner, 7-1 favourite with the Tote for the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury on December 1st, was given a workout on the gallops this morning.

But no decision has been made on whether he will line up in the Badger Brewery Chase at the Somerset course.

Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden, said: 'Paul wants to wait until tomorrow morning and have a look at what is likely to run in the race.

'It`s a very competitive race and we want to be at our best, with the Hennessy at the back of our mind. It`s going to be a last-minute decision.

'The horse is in good order. He is very well and we will just go from there. We will discuss it with Paul this morning.

'We took his blood as a normality this morning but we haven`t had the results of that.'

He added that Nicholls was pleased with the way Ad Hoc galloped.

'He`s in very, very good form,' Simpson said.

Ad Hoc, a seven-year-old gelding by Strong Gale, fell in both the Badger Beer and the Hennessy last season.

He was later second of 30 to Gingembre in the Scottish National at Ayr before winning the Whitbread Gold Cup at Sandown a week later.
