Icon Tops Leger Dozen

Hot favourite Sixties Icon heads 12 horses left in the Ladbrokes St Leger at the confirmation stage.

Jeremy Noseda's colt staked his claim for glory at York on Saturday by winning the BGC Stakes (registered as the Gordon Stakes) at Goodwood.

The runner-up that day, Jadalee, won the last recognised Leger trial, the March Stakes, back at Goodwood recently and Marcus Tregoning's charge has stood his ground.

Brian Meehan has accepted with Red Rocks, who was narrowly beaten by Youmzain in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last month.

His conqueror, as expected, was not among the Leger dozen, but his trainer Mick Channon could still be represented by Championship Point.

Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien has left in four ? Fire And Rain, Mountain, Puerto Rico and Tusculum ? as he seeks a fourth victory in the world's oldest Classic.

Mont Etoile, trained by William Haggas, could bid to become the first filly to win the race since User Friendly in 1992 while Ask may try to give Sir Michael Stoute his first Leger triumph, the only British Classic to elude the Newmarket trainer.

Galient, trained by Michael Jarvis, and The Last Drop from Barry Hills's stable, complete the acceptors.

Ladbrokes St Leger: Ask, Championship Point, Fire And Rain, Galient, Jadalee, Mountain, Puerto Rico, Red Rocks, Sixties Icon, The Last Drop, Tusculum, Mont Etoile (12).

Sixties Icon remains the 4-5 favourite with Coral for the Leger with Red Rocks, Jadalee and the well-backed Tusculum 7-1 co-second favourites. The latter has been trimmed from 8-1 following further support.

Ladbrokes St Leger, Coral bet: 4-5 Sixties Icon, 7-1 Red Rocks, Jadalee, Tusculum, 12-1 Ask, Mountain, Fire And Rain, 16-1 Puerto Rico, 20-1 Galient, Mont Etoile, 25-1 Championship Point, 40-1 The Last Drop.
