Japanese set to invade Goodwood

Three Japanese-trained horses are amongst the field of 69 entries for the Group One Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Kazuo Fujisawa, one of the leading trainers in Japan, has Zenno El Cid, winner of last season`s Grade One Mile Championship at Kyoto, and Grade Three winners Diamond Biko and Magnaten entered for the Stg£265,000 contest.

Aidan O`Brien has entered a strong team headed by dual Guineas hero Rock Of Gibraltar and Newmarket runner up Hawk Wing.

Last season`s champion juvenile Johannesburg, Poule d`Essai des Poulains victor Landseer and Bach, who was third in last year`s Breeders` Cup Mile, are also among O`Brien`s 23 contenders.

Godolphin`s Noverre will be bidding to repeat his success in last year`s renewal of the one mile race.

Sagitta 1000 Guineas heroine Kazzia is also entered along with Letheby & Christopher Predominate Stakes runner-up Dubai Destination, last season`s Champagne Victor Vintage Stakes winner Naheef and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Summoner.

One time 1000 Guineas hope Silent Honor and high class middle distance horse Toubougg are also among Godolphin`s 19 entries.

Entenmann`s Irish 1000 Guineas winner Gossamer could represent Luca Cumani, John Gosden has Zenda, winner of the Poule d`Essai des Pouliches in the field, while local trainer John Dunlop has entered Olden Times.

Sir Michael Stoute has both King Of Happiness and No Excuse Needed in the race and Mick Channon will be hoping Queen`s Logic, so cruelly denied runs in both the English and Irish Guineas by injury and illness, will stay fit for the race.

France are also set to be represented with Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes winner Keltos in the field as well as Criquette Head-Maarek`s Medecis and Andre Fabre`s Bowman.
