Jockey fined for allegedly striking Kinane

Michael Kinane was allegedly struck across the face with a whip after winning the Gran Criterium aboard the Aidan O'Brien-trained Sholokhov at San Siro, Italy yesterday.

The alleged incident happened when Kinane crossed the finishing line after winning the Group 1 contest. Kinane returned to the weighroom with his goggles broken.

It has been reported that former Italian champion jockey Palmerio Agus, who had ridden third-placed Sorrella Luce, struck Kinane with the whip.

Kinane later reported the incident to the Italian stewards. They fined Agus 300,000 lire (#100) for 'improper conduct.'

Agus denies striking Kinane.
