Jumps meetings forced to abandon

There will be no jumps racing in Britain for the second day running following the loss of Chepstow and Wetherby through waterlogging.

The planned 4pm inspection at Chepstow was brought forward following heavy rainfall just before 1pm.

'Parts of the track are waterlogged on both the hurdles and chase courses. The recorded rainfall in the 24 hours, up to 1pm, today was 44mm,' said clerk of the course David McAllister.

'There is more rain about. We have showers coming up the Bristol Channel and the last one deposited 3mm in 15 to 20 minutes.'

It was a similar story at Wetherby.

The going at the track was heavy this morning and officials called a 3pm inspection which showed the track to be unraceable.

A course spokesman said: 'We have failed the inspection and we`re off. The track is very waterlogged.'
