Kicking King Nears Return

Kicking King is giving Tom Taaffe the right signals as the County Kildare trainer gradually plots his return to the racecourse.

Not seen since landing his second King George VI Chase back in December 2005, after which the nine-year-old met with a setback, the former Gold Cup winner is pleasing Taaffe at home.

And while plans are far from set in stone, it is possible the racing public will see Kicking King in racecourse action before 2008 arrives.

Taaffe said: 'He's in great order and cantered away this morning.

'I would say the early part of the New Year or maybe New Year's Eve would be when we'll start him off ? possibly on New Year's Eve at Punchestown.'

Having been out of action for almost two years, sponsors totesport make Kicking King a 25-1 chance for this season's Gold Cup.
