Kinane on Diaghilev in French Derby Mick Kinane has chosen Diaghilev from the Aidan O`Brien-trained quartet in this Sunday`s Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby) at Chantilly.Kinane has decided to ride the recent Chantilly group three winner instead of Black Sam Bellamy and Castle Gandolfo.Black Sam Bellamy, twice French group placed, was third past the post in a major French Derby trial, the Prix Hocquart, but was later promoted to second.Johnny Murtagh rides Galileo`s full brother on this occasion, with Jamie Spencer required for the Racing Post Trophy second Castle Gandolfo.The stable also employ Temple of Artemis (Colm O`Donoghue) as a pacemaker.Mark Johnston`s Simeon, who is set to be partnered by Frankie Dettori, will go into the race on the back of an easy success in the Heathorns Classic Trial at Sandown, which stretched his winning run to five at the Esher track.The son of Lammtarra was supplemented for the race yesterday at a cost of €60,000 and he will face 14 rivals in the Chantilly classic.The home defence is a strong one and the unbeaten Act One, the winner of two major French Derby trials, including the Prix Lupin, looks a tough nut to crack.Khalkevi, imperious in the Hocquart, is similarly unbeaten.Louveteau, the Hocquart runner-up who was later demoted to fifth, could also prove dangerous in tandem with the progressive talents of Sulamani, Le Fou and Polities.The ground was riding soft (3.4) at Chantilly today, but it is expected to dry out on Sunday.
