Light and Galileo declared

The eagerly awaited clash between Fantastic Light and Galileo was confirmed this morning when eight horses were declared for the Ireland The Food Island Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Vodafone Derby and Irish Derby winner Galileo is among three Aidan O`Brien-trained declarations, along with Bach and Ice Dancer - his King George pacemaker.

Frankie Dettori will ride Fantastic Light with Daragh O`Donohoe on pacemaker Give The Slip.

The five-year-old represents Godolphin instead of Sakhee, who had been put on standby in case of unsuitably soft ground.

He has two lengths to make up on unbeaten King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Galileo from Ascot but trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: 'He will have a better chance than before as the distance will be perfect for Fantastic Light.

'He has won many more races at a mile an a quarter than at a mile and a half. I am happy with him. He is in great form and ready for his race.'

The only otherwithdrawal today was Dermot Weld`s Muakaad.

The race is to be shown live on BBC grandstand on Saturday as well as Network 2.

Champion Stakes declarations: Bach, Chimes At Midnight, Galileo, Give The Slip, Fantastic Light, Ice Dancer, Rebelline, Siringas (8).
