Limerick set for first meeting

Racing will take place at the new Limerick racecourse at Greenmount Park for the first time on Sunday.

The #12million Grade One facility is the first course to be completed in Ireland since Wexford opened 50 years ago.

Mouse Morris`s smart chaser Foxchapel King heads the handicap on 12st for the feature #50,000 Michael Punch & Partners Munster National, which has attracted a 13-runner field.

Angus Houston, racecourse general manager, said: 'Everything is now in place for what promises to be a spectacular opening at Greenmount Park.

'We would advise that anyone intending to come racing should arrive early in order to avoid any potential delays.'

The seven-race card, which gets under way at 2.15pm, has attracted a total of 90 runners and the going is currently described as yielding to soft.

The course is a right-handed circuit one mile and three furlongs round and is of an undulating nature with a wide sweeping turn into the straight.

Limerick will stage predominantly National Hunt racing, which will include a three-day Christmas Festival on December 26th, 27th and 28th.
