LINCOLN HAT-TRICK FOR COLE Nimello gave Wantage trainer Paul Cole his third victory in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster today. Cole had sent out Kuala Lipis to score in 1997 and John Ferneley 12 months ago and there was little doubt about the outcome of this afternoon`s randombet.com-sponsored race when Jimmy Fortune produced the 9-2 favourite to challenge Highland Reel approaching the final furlong. Nimello quickly got the better of his rival and drew two lengths clear of Highland Reel (9-1) with last year`s runner-up King Priam (20-1) four lengths back in third. Mastermind (14-1) finished fourth. 'He`s always had a touch of class,' said Cole. 'Since he`s been gelded he has an improved attitude.' And Fortune added: 'The horse was cantering throughout the race and it was just a matter of finding something to give him a lead - he`s a nice horse.'
