Long Season Takes Toll On Benbaun Mark Wallace is still mystified by Benbaun's poor performance in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint over the weekend and is putting it down to the effects of a long season. The Prix de l'Abbaye and multiple Irish winner was weak in the market at Sha Tin, but was prominent in the early stages before dropping back to eventually finish last of the 13 behind the impressive Sacred Kingdom.'The horse won't be back for a few days, but he seems fine,' reported the Newmarket-based trainer.'I just don't know why he ran so badly ? he did get hampered, but was beaten by then.'He hasn't run that many times this season but he has been in training a long time, so maybe it's that.'Wallace had been contemplating a shot at some of the big Australian sprints, but has taken that off the agenda now.'He won't be going away ? he'll have some time off and we will bring him back for next season,' he added.(C) PA Sport
