Lyons Hoping To Rise Again In Phoenix

Ger Lyons has ruled his Queen Mary winner Elletelle out of the Lowther Stakes in preference for a clash with the colts in the Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

The speedy juvenile covered herself in glory at Newmarket last week despite defeat, finishing a close third behind Aidan O'Brien's You'resothrilling.

Carrying a 3lb penalty for her Royal Ascot success, she completely missed the break but made great late headway to claim a place, leaving connections believing their filly emerged as the best in the race.

'I'm going to go the route of the Phoenix Stakes, a Group One because we've already won a Group Two,' said Lyons.

'Obviously Henrythenavigator will be there but if the ground is right that is where we'll go, this rain can't keep up forever.

'I thought she came out of Newmarket with a lot of credit and she went down fighting which is all I ask. I think that performance justifies going for the Phoenix. Going for the Lowther wouldn't prove anything.

'If the weather does pick up and she runs in the Phoenix, I think we would more than likely then go to Newmarket for the Cheveley Park and that would be it for the year.

'She wouldn't have any more than two runs for the rest of the year, she's already had four and I'm hoping she will be a Guineas filly.'
