Magic Set For Newmarket

Magic America booked her ticket for next month's Stan James 1000 Guineas with victory in the Prix Imprudence at Maisons-Laffitte on Wednesday.

The seven-furlong trial featured a bumper 17-runner field but there was no mistaking the authority with which Criquette Head-Maarek's charge took the race by the scruff of the neck inside the final furlong.

Magic America, who finished runner-up to Dutch Art in the Prix Morny last season, sprinted past four rivals on her inner under Johnny Murtagh to score by two lengths.

Magic America is as low as 20-1 with Ladbrokes for the Guineas and she also has experience of the track after finishing sixth in last year's Cheveley Park Stakes.

Head-Maarek said: 'I'm very glad as she's not completely fit and still has her winter coat.

'She'll improve for that and it's likely that we'll go to Newmarket.'

US Ranger could be supplemented for the 2000 Guineas after notching a stylish win in the Listed Prix Djebel.
