McDonald Going For The Full Monty

PJ McDonald will take the reins aboard Fullandby as he goes in search of an incredible Scottish National - Ayr Gold Cup double on Saturday.

The up-and-coming jockey partnered Ferdy Murphy´s Hot Weld to success in the marathon steeplechase in April, but has been making a name for himself on the level this summer.

When asked about the possibility of completing the rare brace, he said: 'It would be unbelievable - I don´t think it has ever been done before.

'It will be very hard and you need a lot of luck. But six furlongs won´t trouble my lad and I don´t think any rain will bother him.

'He´s proven on soft, he´ll go on anything,' he told At The Races.

McDonald struck gold aboard Tim Etherington´s Fullandby in the Portland Handicap last week, and is looking forward to renewing his partnership with the five-year-old at the weekend.

He added: 'It (winning the Portland) was unbelievable, I couldn´t have wished for anything better.

'He loves coming from off the pace and when he passes one he goes for the line.'
