McNamara reaches 500 point to point winner mark

John Thomas McNamara made history at Kilsheelan point to point today, becoming the first jockey to ride 500 point to point winners.

Riding former top class park performer L'Ami in the Open Lightweight today, McNamara needed to work hard to win on the Enda Bolger trained gelding, eventually getting the better of Lydon House, to win by a neck.

McNamara run of wins 'between the flags' began in 1994 when winning on his father's Tullovin Castle, trained by his uncle Andrew McNamara, at Askeaton. Since then McNamara has been point to point Champion Jockey on five occasions and among McNamara's better winners were Gunther McBride, Drombeag, Mossbank and Spot Thedifference.
