Moon Cactus, Dam Of Doyen, Dies At Stud

Moon Cactus, the dam of Doyen, Moonshell and Hatha Anna, has died from injuries sustained when foaling a Singspiel colt at Dalham Hall Stud on Sunday.

The news comes just a fortnight after her Oaks-winning daughter Moonshell died in similar circumstances at Woodpark Stud, County Meath.

Moon Cactus, by Kris out of Moon Lady, was bred by Sheikh Mohammed and trained by Henry Cecil, for whom she won the Group Three Prestige Stakes and Listed Lupe Stakes and Sweet Solera Stakes, all in the hands of Steve Cauthen.

In a seven-race career, she was never once unplaced, finishing runner-up in the Prix de Diane Hermes (French Oaks) and the Group Two Fillies´ Mile at Ascot, and third in Goodwood´s Group Two Nassau Stakes.

Her son Doyen, winner of the 2004 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, has recently been retired to Darley and is about to embark on his first season at Dalham Hall.
