Mount Joy can give Godolphin trophy

Godolphin and the Ballydoyle team of Aidan O`Brien will temporarily switch their attentions from New York and the Breeders` Cup to Doncaster tomorrow.

These all-powerful yards dominate events at the highest level these days and do battle once again in the Racing Post Trophy on Town Moor.

O`Brien has farmed Group One events for juvenile colts this season - nine out of nine so far - but the Irish wizard may have to bow to Sheikh Mohammed`s team this time.

For they have supplemented the once-raced Mount Joy to the one-mile feature and he must be a big threat to O`Brien`s unbeaten Castle Gandolfo.

Mount Joy was purchased from the Barry Hills yard after he finished a really promising second in a warm maiden at Doncaster back in August.

He was running on in pleasing style behind Sir Michael Stoute`s King Of Happiness over seven furlongs after pulling hard early on.

He had to switch wide to make his effort and is bred to relish tomorrow`s extra furlong.

The third that day, Henry Cecil`s Harry Jake, has dotted up since.

Recent work at home has encouraged connections to have a crack at tomorrow`s £175,000 prize, the last Group One of the season in Britain.

Smart Predator, an impressive winner, at Newmarket last week, can give weight all-round in the Bubwith Rated Stakes.

He was always going smoothly under Darryll Holland at headquarters, and easily held Chookie Heiton by three-quarters of a length. John Quinn`s grey sprinter will be hard to beat if still in that mood.

Pachara has strong claims in the Listed Constant Security Doncaster Stakes judged on his third to Dominica in the Group Three Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot two weeks ago.

Michael Bell`s youngster was putting in his best work at the finish of that five-furlong contest and this extra furlong can see him come out on top.

Marcus Tregoning`s tough and ultra-consistent campaigner Mubtaker can lift the Group Three Whatcombe St Simon Stakes at Newbury.

There was much to admire about his five-length trouncing of the useful Hatha Anna at Newmarket three weeks ago and it will take a smart one to beat him.

Tregoning`s horses are flying and Mubtaker can keep that run going.

Aglow fits the bill in the opening Swettenham Stud Radley Stakes.

Sir Michael Stoute`s Spinning Wolrd filly won well at Leicester in September when she only had to be pushed out to account for a field of maidens.

She held an engagement in the Fillies` mile at one time and is a juvenile of some potential.

Tremallt can repeat last year`s win in the £30,000 Charisma Gold Cup at Kempton.

Tom George`s 10-year-old just hung on by a short head from The Land Agent when making all the running in this three-mile handicap chase last October and must go close again.

George is confident of another big run at a track and on ground he loves.

French star Jair Du Cochet will have the top hurdle prizes in his sights this term and it will be a disappointment if he is beaten in the Platinum Security Hurdle.

Ryalux tackles the Tripleprint Chase at Aintree on Sunday and should be a spot of value if his final outing of last term is taken at face value.

Andy Crook`s gelding was sent off as short as 7-2 for the AGFA Diamond Handicap Chase at Sandown in February but was disappointing and was pulled up.

However, that run can be pretty safely dismissed on the grounds that he was let down by his jumping and was running over three miles on very testing ground for the first time.

That was also a lot hotter contest and he is back in much more reasonable company now over his optimum trip of two and a half miles.

He has scope to do better this term and he could be just the type to tackle something like the John Hughes over the National fences later this season.

Jonjo O`Neill`s Joss Naylor can make a winning bow over timber in the Bonusfilm Novices` Hurdle.

He has been successful in two of his three starts in bumpers and was impressive when a smooth winner at Carlisle over 17 furlongs earlier.

Held up and travelling well, he only had to be shaken up before running on well and being eased at the finish.

And Eau De Cologne can be fancied in the day`s most valuable race, the Barbara King Memorial Desert Orchid Chase at Wincanton.

Lydia Richards` nine-year-old wound up last season with a creditable third in what was a big step up in class in the Tote Gold Trophy Chase at Sandown.
