NEWBURY THREATENED

Tomorrow`s jumps meeting at Newbury is under threat from waterlogging.

A morning inspection will be held at the track, which is also due to stage a meeting on Saturday.

Officials at Kempton were today keeping an anxious eye on the weather ahead of Saturday`s meeting at the course.

The going is currently heavy for the first Flat fixture of the season at the Sunbury track.

Racing on the sprint track has already been scrapped and a forecast of further rain could put the rest of the card in jeopardy.

Haydock Park today announced it has scrapped the Flat races on its mixed card a week on Saturday.

Its Flat track is currently waterlogged and will not be raceable for the televised meeting.

To fill the gap three extra hurdle races and a National Hunt Flat race have been added to the programme, from which Channel 4 are due to broadcast four events live.

There will therefore be no Flat racing on the second Saturday of the turf Flat season as that day`s other meetings are National Hunt fixtures at Ascot, Hexham and Market Rasen.
