O'Brien Dominates Ebor Betting

Three-year-olds dictate the betting for the totesport Ebor following the publication of the weights on Wednesday.

Aidan O'Brien's trio of Mahler (8st 5lb), Honolulu (8st 13lb) and Macarthur (8st 10lb) are all aged three, while Bahrain Trophy winner Tranquil Tiger (8st 9lb) is a 10-1 chance with sponsors.

In what is likely to be another competitive renewal of the historic handicap at York, Young Mick has been handed top weight of 9st 11lb.

Last year's shock 100-1 winner Mudawin is on 8st 9lb, while other interesting candidates for the August 22 contest include Greenwich Meantime (8st 13lb), Al Eile (8st 10lb) and the Tony Martin-trained Arc Bleu (8st 1lb)

Totesport spokesman Damian Walker said: 'Aidan O'Brien dominates our betting and whatever he decides to run is almost certain to be a short price on the day.

'He landed the race back in 2001 with the three-year-old Mediterranean and has a strong three-year-old entry with his Mahler, Honolulu and Macarthur.

'The totesport Ebor has become such as high-class handicap that in 2005 and 2006 we didn't have a single three-year-old runner as none got into the weights, so it is no surprise to see such a quality three-year-old entry this year.

'Henry Cecil last won the race back in 1998 with the three-year-old Tuning and his three-year-old Tranquil Tiger looked every inch an Ebor horse when stepped up in trip to land the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket's July meeting.'

York chief executive and clerk of the course William Derby added: 'The totesport Ebor is our most famous race and one of the most fiercely competitive contests both on the track and in the betting markets.'
