Owl to return to Flat action Group One winner Arctic Owl is likely to return to action on the Flat next week after an abortive attempt over hurdles during the winter.James Fanshawe`s eight-year-old, winner of the Jefferson Smurfit Memorial Irish St Leger in 2000, has been entered in Tuesday`s Gordon Lamb Stakes at Nottingham, but he will also be put in the John Porter at Newbury a week tomorrow.'The ground will play a big part in where he runs,' said Fanshawe.'Good or good to firm would be fine but he won`t be running anywhere if it`s firm.'It was hoped Arctic Owl would make up into a Smurfit Champion Hurdle contender after he tried his luck over jumps, but plans were scrapped after he was beaten by Dramatic Quest on his debut at Doncaster in January.Fanshawe added: 'He`s been fine since Doncaster and we just decided to keep him for the Flat. At this stage I would say he`s more likely to run in the John Porter than at Nottingham.'Even in Arctic Owl`s absence, the Gordon Lamb should prove afascinating affair.Other entries including Ormonde Stakes victor Bosham Mill, whose participation means Darryll Holland bypasses the first day of the Craven meeting at Newmarket, Mark Johnston`s Doncaster winner Double Honour, John Dunlop`s Queen`s Vase third Aquarius and Northumberland Plate hero Archduke Ferdinand.
