Paul Flynn off the mark on the Level Paul Flynn trained his first winner on the flat when Drunken Sailor under Kevin Manning took the La Bucca Handicap at Fairyhouse. Flynn associated with the Philip Hobbs yard during his riding days in England, still partners some of his own charges and he got off the mark in his capacity as a trainer when Bronte Bay took a maiden hurdle at Navan back in January. Drunken Sailor had been under the care of Mark Loughnane, indeed he had his last outing for that handler as recently as June sixth at Wexford. Longford-based Flynn came to have Drunken Sailor having pre-trained the gelding for the sales and when he got a licence to train on the level, the son of Tendulkar returned to him. Kevin Manning later completed a double in the closing race on the Jim Gorman-trained Chevalier Country.
