Percy Behind Schedule

Leading 2,000 Guineas fancy Sir Percy is set to do his first sharp piece of work in the next couple of weeks, a little later than originally planned.

Trained by Marcus Tregoning, the Dewhurst winner was given a few quiet days after pulling off a shoe last month but he has been back in light exercise and remains on course for the Newmarket Classic.

'Sir Percy looks in wonderful condition,' Tregoning told the Racing Post.

'When he ripped the shoe off he was giving a buck and a kick and it knocked the foot about a little, so we brought in our farrier to do some remedial work. The colt had a quiet couple of days but is fine now.

'Sir Percy will do his first sharp piece of work in two or three weeks which is perhaps later than planned, but with the weather as cold as it is I doubt we'd have done much with him at this stage anyway.

'It was always our intention to go straight to the Guineas, because he is clean-winded and wouldn't require a prep run. Fortunately, the mishap with the shoe came when it did and not at a key stage of his preparation. He remains very much on target for Newmarket.'
