Plan remains the same for Approach

A crack at the Vodafone Derby remains highly unlikely for New Approach as the dust settles on his narrow eclipse in the stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas at the weekend.

Last season´s champion two-year-old went down by a nose to Henrythenavigator in the Newmarket Classic, having made virtually all the running under Kevin Manning.

Ironically the 11-1 winner was trained by Jim Bolger´s former assistant and now Ballydoyle master, Aidan O´Brien.

Bolger said: "I was a bit mad for a minute and a half, but it was soon forgotten. I congratulated Aidan and it was a great result for Irish racing.

"I left the tactics to Kevin and let him make his own mind up, depending on how the horse jumped out.

"A furlong out I thought he was going to win and it was slightly rude of Aidan to spoil the party, but there you are!

"We will see what Aidan is doing next and take it from there, but the plan won´t change massively."

That plan includes the Boylesports Irish 2000 Guineas at the end of the month followed by the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby - with a trip to Epsom on the first Saturday of June still off the radar.

"I am not 100 per cent sure what I said, but from my recollection I said that Derbys do not do much for a stallion´s career," Bolger explained.

"I do love Epsom. When I was working as a paid hand I always took a day off that day to watch the Derby, which shows what I think of the race.

"I would love to win the race too, but going to the Irish Guineas is a more suitable route to get to the Irish Derby."

Bolger also saddled the third and sixth home in the 1000 Guineas, with dual Group One winner Saoirse Abu finishing in front of her stablemate Lush Lashes.

"I am very happy with the fillies and they have come out of the race perfectly well," Bolger continued.

"I thought Saoirse Abu would run well and her work building up to the race had been good.

"She wasn´t so good at Leopardstown but she ran badly once there last year. That run probably got the nerves out of her and she has settled down from there.

"The Irish 1000 Guineas is very much in her focus.

"Lush Lashes is a possible for the Musidora and then the Irish Oaks.

"If she didn´t run in the Musidora then she would probably not run again before the Irish Oaks."
