Prep Race Unlikely For Prince

Strategic Prince is likely to head straight to the Stan James 2000 Guineas without a prep run.

Paul Cole has been happy with the way his charge developed over the winter months and also has one eye on the Vodafone Derby.

'He put on an awful lot of weight during the winter, possibly a little bit too much, but we're gradually working it off him and he's got his summer coat,' Cole told At The Races.

'He's always been pretty straightforward to train as he's got pretty good legs. He's on schedule, he looks great and he's moving very well.

'I've always felt that the horse will get further than a mile and that a prep race is not really a good idea.

'We're hoping he will get the Derby distance as the whole family have stayed, but he has got devastating speed.

'All you can do in the winter is think and make plans and look at the pedigree.

'Trainers basically operate with instinct and my instinct is that he should get that trip.'
