Preview GALWAY 26TH OCT

Galway hosts a mixed national hunt/flat seven race card on Sunday where the first race is due off at 1.35pm.

The feature race is the four runner Tote Exacta Ballybrit Novice Chase. Edward O'Grady's Golden Row bids to overcome a recent defeat at Roscommon here and is faced by recent beginners chase winners Compostello and Quadco.

Golden Row is not the most reliable of geldings, having found little off the bridle on a few occasions. However, the son of Ore is very highly regarded by his trainer Edward O'Grady and with a rating of 137, Golden Row may possess too much speed for these less experienced rivals.

The E40,000 Galway Tribune Listed Handicap Hurdle has attracted ten hopefuls. Top weight Swordplay may find it difficult to give weight away to some of these and preference is for Dessie Hughes' Mutineer. The selection finished eight in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham and now competes in his first handicap hurdle and can win from a rating of 125.

The concluding bumper does not look a particularly strong race, although Noel Meade's First Diploma looks to possess the best form in this contest. He has not raced since April but a reproduction of his eight length fifth to Penny Fiction should be enough to defeat these. The betting ring will provide an indication of the ability of Meade's newcomer Timeless Spirit.
