Quick Follow-Ups Achieved at Sligo

Paul Carberry continued his excellent recent run of success much to the delight of King Rama´s short-priced backers in the Belfry Handicap Hurdle at Sligo.

Given a 15Ib hike in the ratings for a comfortable win at Kilbeggan on Saturday evening last, the Kingmambo gelding had a 6Ib mandatory penalty to shoulder in his bid for a quick double.

Despite odds of 4/9, Carberry had to get serious with the chestnut who had to be brave to overhaul Amarjit by a length with a nineteen length gap back to the third-placed Derrymore Dawn.

Trainer John Kiely said on his first visit to Cleveragh with his first runner, "King Rama is very consistent and I wish I had ten like him. He keeps improving and doing enough. I doubt if he would have won with the 15Ibs he got for Kilbeggan. He might have another run soon and then we´ll freshen him up."

Another horse making a quick reappearance was Teach Nua, just five days after he won a bumper at Cork. This fellow bolted up at odds of 4/5 in the concluding bumper here, in the hands of Robbie McNamara for Dermot Weld.
