Riches Ruled Out Of Belmont Return

Belmont Stakes winner Rags To Riches will miss an intended engagement back at the New York venue this weekend after she was found to be suffering from a high temperature.

Todd Pletcher's charge, who became the first filly to win the final leg of the American triple crown in 102 years, will now be aimed at next month's Alabama Stakes over 10 furlongs.

'We are going to pass on the Coaching Club American Oaks,' Pletcher said.

'Her temperature was 101 degrees, which is not high, but a little beyond the normal range. We galloped her this morning. We are going to take the conservative approach. We won't breeze her without her being 100 per cent.

'Our plan is now to point for the Alabama Stakes at Saratoga (August 18) and the Breeders' Cup (October 27),' Pletcher told www.bloodhorse.com.

'There are too many big races out there. If we were going to miss one race, this is the one to miss. But I am disappointed that we didn't get to run her back (at Belmont) because a lot of people were looking forward to seeing her again at Belmont Park.'
