River Proud a doubtful runner

River Proud, supplemented into the Vodafone Derby on Monday at a cost of #75,000, is unlikely to take his place in the blue riband after suffering a late setback.

Trainer Paul Cole reports the French 2000 Guineas third to be lame, casting his participation in tomorrow´s Classic into doubt.

Cole said: "He is one tenth lame and it is unlikely he will run in the Derby. I´m not sure what caused it, but he is lame and I imagine we will make a final decision on his participation this evening.

"It is not evident why he is lame so until we find out what is wrong all plans are on hold. It is a shame as the horse is in very good form and did a great piece of work on Wednesday."

River Proud is widely available at 25-1 for the Derby.
