Salford Third in Saratoga Gordon Elliott's Salford City put up a brave effort but had to settle for third in the A. P. Smithwick Memorial Chase at Saratoga. Paul Carberry was allowed to set a sedate gallop on the seven-year-old, and looked to hold every chance when still in front after the turn for home. A clumsy leap at the last sealed his fate however, as High Action breezed past in the closing stages to land the valuable pot.
