Silvano takes Hong Kong prize Silvano became the new toast of Hong Kong after storming to victory in the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin early today. This was the second prize the German raider has plundered in south east Asia following last month`s success in the Singapore Cup.And it was equally emphatic as he came home one and three-quarter lengths ahead of 1999 winner and 2000 runner-up Jim And Tonic, with the locally-trained Indigenous a further length and a half back in third. The ex-Sir Michael Stoute trained Daliapour took the field along at a fast pace in the early stages with Silvano and Oriental Express content to wait in the slipstream of John Egan`s mount. As the runners turned for home the petrol began to run out for Daliapour and as he began to retreat it was Andreas Suborics who pushed Silvano into what proved to be an unassailable lead inside the final quarter mile. The partnership quickly pulled away and although favourite Jim And Tonic came out of the pack with a late run to grab second it was always a case of too little too late for the French challenger.Silvano (6.2-1) who had to settle for third place in the Dubai Sheema Classic since winning in Singapore, will now return to the Kranji track for the Singapore Airlines International Cup on May 12th in a bid for a regional hat-trick according to jubilant winning trainer Andreas Wohler.
