Stoute pair in Gwyn bid

Sir Michael Stoute unveils the first of his strong hand of three-year-old fillies when Ghazal and Gonchorova tackle the Shadwell Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow.

The Newmarket trainer is responsible for Karasta and Regal Rose, who head the betting for the Sagitta 1000 Guineas, and will be looking for Classic pointers with his runners on the Rowley Mile.

He won the seven-furlong Group Three contest 12 months ago with Petrushka, who was sent off favourite for the 1000 Guineas but managed only third place behind Lahan.

The last filly to go on to 1000 Guineas glory after winning the Nell Gwyn was Oh So Sharp in 1985.

Kieren Fallon rides Goncharova while Willie Supple takes the mount on the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned Ghazal.

Sheikh Hamdan`s first jockey Richard Hills rides Lowther Stakes runner-up Khulan for the John Dunlop stable.

Clive Brittain took Saturday`s Easter Stakes with Herodotus and he aims for another upset with Zaheemah.

Frankie Dettori takes the ride on the filly who got off the mark last time out on the all-weather at Southwell in February.
