Taaffe Sticking Low-Key With Pickings

Slim Pickings is set to run over hurdles during the festive period rather take up either of his big-race entries.

The eight-year-old, who finished third in the John Smith's Grand National last term, is entered in both the Stan James King George VI Chase at Kempton as well as Leopardstown's Lexus Chase.

However, trainer Tom Taaffe thinks either contest would be a big ask for Slim Pickings.

'He will go for a hurdle race at Leopardstown as the King George looks a very hot race,' he told At The Races.

'The Lexus is going to be a hot race so maybe we had better stick by his mark over fences until we can get everything right.'

Slim Pickings is a best-priced 25-1 with VC Bet for the 2008 National.
