Watering continues at Curragh

Watering continued on the round course at the Curragh on Friday ahead of the Boylesports Irish Guineas Festival this weekend.

The straight course was watered on Thursday to maintain the going as good to firm.

"We watered the straight course extensively on Thursday and we´re continuing to water the round course on Friday to keep it good to firm. It´s always a notch quicker than the straight," said racecourse manager Paul Hensey.

"There is a slight risk of rain but even if it does arrive it´s not going to be much, maybe three or four millimetres if we do get it at all.

"The ground is in good shape, it´s quick summer ground, but it´s safe.

"It´s hard to keep everybody happy. There are fast-ground horses and slow-ground horses.

"There are a number of horses that are not running here over the weekend because the conditions are too quick for them but if it had been soft there would be others that probably would not run.

"There´s a great cover of grass. We´ve not been on it since the first meeting of the year so it´s had a couple of months to rest and it´s nice and level."
