Aix La Chapelle made a winning start to his career when taking the Sky Bet Club Irish EBF Maiden for two-year-olds at the Curragh.

A 4/1 shot for Aidan O'Brien and Wayne Lordan, the son of Justify came with a late challenge to deny Robson De Aguiar’s front-running 14/1 chance Bull Shark by a length and half.

The champion trainer’s 4/9 favourite Giant Sequoia and Ryan Moore finished a length and three-quarters further back in third place.

“We’re delighted with him. They were horses that we were getting out in case they were Chesham horses,” said O’Brien.

“He’s a sleeper at home, he’s a beautiful horse. He’s relaxed and has a great pedigree, by Justify.

“He could be a Chesham horse now. They went along there and he did well as he was never away. Wayne gave him a lovely ride.”
