Whatuthink set for step up in Long Distance Hurdle

Connections of Whatuthink believe the step up to three miles will suit the six-year-old in the toteswinger Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury on Saturday.

Oliver McKiernan's charge stuck on well when runner-up to Catch Me in the Lismullen Hurdle over two and a half miles at Navan on his latest start.

"We were delighted with him in Navan and we think he's been crying out for this trip for a while," said Adrian Keatley, assistant to the County Dublin-based handler.

"We were going to go for the Long Walk but that's a bit close to Leopardstown at Christmas and he'll probably go there for the three-miler after this one.

"There aren't many of these type of races in Ireland so it's an opportunity for him to see how he gets on against this type of opponent.

"At Grade One level he's always going to be vulnerable over two miles to two and a half to a horse with a bit of pace."
