Wonder sore after Aintree tumble

Arthur Moore reported Lyreen Wonder to be sore after the gelding came to grief at the 20th fence in Saturday`s Martell Grand National.

After the race the horse was taken to Leahurst Veterinary College in Liverpool for examination.

'His X-rays came up clean but he`s quite sore,' Moore said today.

'He didn`t actually fall he was unseated and I think he fell over some horse or horses. It was a bit freakish.'

Lyreen Wonder was just beginning to make headway when unshipping Barry Cash and the Naas trainer added: 'We were delighted with the way he was going. He was just sneaking into the race. But that`s the way it goes.'

Moore, who is hoping to aim Lyreen Wonder at next year`s Grand National, had taken the Martell Melling Chase the previous afternoon with Native Upmanship.

Native Upmanship got the better of a high-class field in Friday`s feature and Moore now intends sending the classy nine-year-old to the Punchestown Festival later this month.

'He`s taken the race very well,' Moore said. 'He had been second in the three Grade Ones so he was entitled to win one. He`s very genuine, very game.

'He`ll most likely go for the BMW (April 23rd) in Punchestown.'
