Work partner boost for Spacious

There are no negative vibes coming from the James Fanshawe yard about his leading 1,000 Guineas fancy Spacious.

And the stable confidence was furthered boosted when the filly´s galloping companion Cesare sauntered to victory in a Listed race at Ascot on Wednesday.

"I do get some encouragement from that, but one thing is work and another thing is racing," said Fanshawe.

"She can get Cesare on the bridle, that´s for sure, but he´s very lazy."

The undefeated Spacious was also a big mover in the betting during the winter but has only run twice so far, the latest in the May Hill Stakes last September.

Fanshawe continued: "She seems very well and I don´t think it´s a problem not having had a run.

"She´s really come on in the last couple of weeks and her coat and her skin look really well.

"She´s got size and scope and as far as I can remember, it was testing when she ran at Leicester and fast when she ran at Doncaster so there shouldn´t be any problems. I just hope there are no hard luck stories."

Jamie Spencer tends to ride Spacious when she moves alongside Cesare on Newmarket Heath.

"Racing is different to work but Cesare´s been a big help to the filly," reiterated the joint-champion jockey.

"James never gallops them hard - they just move alongside each other.

"She´s inexperienced but I´m hoping for a good run - if I wasn´t excited about this I´m in the wrong game."
