Yeats set for historic Ascot Gold Cup hat-trick

Aidan O´Brien´s Yeats is on course to become just the second horse in history, and the first in 31 years, to win the 2m4f Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup for the third consecutive year.

Winner of the race in 2006 and again last year, Yeats, who won the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan on his reappearance in April, will be attempting to emulate Sagaro, who won three consecutive runnings of the race between 1975 and 1977.

O´Brien said: ?Another Gold Cup bid with Yeats has always been the plan and that is what we are looking at. Septimus is also in the race, but he hasn´thad a run this year and, while he is in work, we are not sure about plans for him just yet.?
