Heavily-backed Beau Satchel took full advantage of his lower all-weather mark when delivering in the apprentice handicap at Dundalk.

From 4/1 in the morning, the four-year-old was punted down to 15/8 favourite on the off. Colin Keane was content to track the leaders before guiding his charge into the lead over a furlong out. The pair soon asserted and had three lengths in hand at the finish. The Dancing Lord kept on for second at 9/1. Nedera at 25/1, took third another length behind.

Ado McGuinness was stuck in traffic at Gowran Park. His head lad Gary Barron said: “We thought we would exploit his all-weather mark. We’ve always thought a lot of him. He’ll probably get a break, we’ll see what the handicapper might do.

“We thought he liked soft ground, but he likes the sand too! He’ll go for premier handicaps next year.

“He has very good owners (Total Recall Racing Club). They had Beau Michael too. The owners are from all over. Dave Corr is the head of the syndicate.”

Beau Satchel is rated 8lb lower on the all-weather that on turf.
