The successful Galileo gelding, a former Ballydoyle inmate and last seen in action when down the field in the Leger at the Curragh behind Sonnyboyliston, was an impressive twelve length victor this afternoon.

Six to four on favourite Mt Leinster (a 103-rated performer) couldn’t live with Barbados at all in the final quarter mile, as Scheu Time did best of the rest, six and a half lengths back in third.

"I rode in Killarney a month ago when he was a little unlucky as I felt I could have been better on him and should have won. Knowing the horse today, the race went very smoothly and I got a lovely passage through and he has done everything very smartly,” reported McGuane.

"He is a class horse, is a very good stayer and I'm delighted with him."

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Ms. A. O'Keeffe, that Ms. K. L. Derwin, rider of Bruinneall had presented herself to weigh out at three pounds overweight, none of which had been declared at declaration time. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that this was her first ride and at declaration time she was confident she could do the weight. Evidence was also heard form Thomas Cleary, trainer, who stated that he was happy for Ms. Derwin to ride the horse as this is a family owned animal and he would be withdrawing the horse if she could not ride. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards under the provisions of Rule 198(vii)(b) allowed the overweight on this occasion. The Stewards were, however, satisfied that Ms. K. L. Derwin was in breach of Rule 195 and having considered her record in this regard they fined her €150 on this occasion.
