Wither Hills survives Enquiry

Wither Hills survived a Stewards Enquiry to land the County Roscommon Hunt Handicap Hurdle for his trainer Brian Hamilton with Andrew Lynch aboard.

The winning 14/1 shot (who opened at 25/1 this morning) drifted left under pressure after the last impeding the challenge of the 3/1 favourite Isobella Blue in the process, he again wandered left after straightening up for a stride and impeded the runner-up for a second time.

Considering just a neck separated the two at the finish many felt the favourite would be awarded the race, however having viewed video footage the Stewards decided against a reversal.

Winning rider Lynch was recording his first winner since returning on Thursday last from a lengthy injury.

Brian Hamilton trainer of the winner said afterwards: "He got the run of the race, everything suited him and the ease in the ground helped."

Trainer of the Isobella Blue, Tom Foley said when asked would he appeal the result: "We just might, she is only a small filly and was impeded the whole way on the run-in and was a length in front shortly after the post.

Before the result of the Stewards Enquiry was called Foley was confident his filly would be awarded the race.

Despite not reserving the result the Stewards did however impose a two day ban on Andrew Lynch for careless riding aboard the winner.
