Formscan - The Irish have dominated this event over the last decade, winning seven times, and are likely to improve on that record based on the ante-post market. The leading English hope would have to be Kripticjim, who just prevailed in Grade 2 company at this course in January and this longer trip could bring out improvement. Out of the four Willie Mullins sends to post, Doctor Steinberg is the clear choice after beating Thedeviluno at Navan prior to bolting up at the top level at Leopardstown last month. The six-year-old should mount a bold bid in protecting his unbeaten record over timber, but the value may lie with SPINNINGAYARN. Gordon Elliott's gelding has shaped as if crying out for this step up in distance when winning comfortably at Fairyhouse and Punchestown the last twice, so with the potential for bundles of improvement, he looks the one to side with.

It was very impressive on that ground, it’s very tough. Every time we’ve gone up in trip, he seems to like it. He’s out of a Cyborg mare and that’s all stamina. I think we bought two off Walter (Connors) that year, Kopek Des Bordes and this fella so it’s a 100 per cent record in Grade One's which is fantastic. It was probably going to the last the first time before he relaxed. There was a horse up his backside everywhere he went and he was very free, but he kept galloping - the fact that he could pull like that and still be galloping at the end of two-miles-six on very tough ground. We thought he was a summer horse first so he goes on all sorts of ground, but he seems to be better when he has tougher conditions.

I’m delighted with that, he jumped well and Darragh gave him a super ride. It’s what we hoped he might do and he’s a horse we like. Like any of ours we’d hope he’d step forward for the run as well. We definitely knew we had some nice young horses last year and he was unlucky not to win his bumper, as it got taken off him. He’s a nice horse, he’s raw and he’s going to keep improving. He picked up there once and then just sort of kept galloping. He’s got a bit of class and he’s a nice horse.

After running over two-miles here last year he is probably used to going a bit faster. I think he really appreciated the step-up in trip and the benefit of the run coming here this year helped him as well. Coming off of the Flat, this is a different type of racing and they just go a good bit quicker early. He wasn't pulling and dragging my arms out, but I was still happy to let him go to the front once we had a couple of hurdles jumped. He came to us last year. He ran a cracker here in Galway and ran a really good race in the Ebor, which I think we’ll probably head back for now after that,. Looking at him jumping there he was electric for a horse having his second run over hurdles, coming from Poland. The only jumping he did was in our place. He was so confident in himself, just skimming the tops of the hurdles. I’d say Paul’s heart was in his mouth. You like a handicapper doing that but not a horse first time out over hurdles. He really enjoyed himself, he was loving it.

He had good form; he hasn’t been the easiest horse to train but I’d say he’s in a good place there at the moment. I liked the way he went from the last to the line, even though it wasn’t the strongest race in the world. That’s our 150th winner of the year in Ireland. It’s another milestone and it’s important. The horses are running well, we’ve a good bunch, and Jack is riding out of his skin as well.

He has come on a lot and while it is a little tricky to settle him, it isn't a massive job and when I spoke to Sean beforehand, he knew exactly what I wanted. You just have to tack onto heels and then give him the reins, and Sean rode a lovely race. The horse was bought for small money and well done to JD Moore who found him for us. He had been placed in bumpers for a smaller trainer in England, we paid 12 grand for him and the plan was just to win a race with him. . He learned as he went and is a nice progressive horse. It is great to have a winner here today with a big crowd. He'll get a few pounds in the handicap now but sometimes with a horse like this, there is nothing wrong with having a high rating as you can box away racing in smaller fields and pick up money.

it’s great for the lads (Youoktodrive Syndicate) as this was a while coming and he bumped into some very decent horses in his bumpers. He worked well on heavy ground before but that’s the first time he got it as soft as that in a race. His jumping was good at home. I loved the way he passed the other two fairly quickly and he won snug enough at the line. This looked a fairly decent race on paper and it’s great that he’s got his win in the bag and we’ll make a plan now.
