We brought him to Ballinesker Beach in Wexford after he won on Tuesday and it is lovely for the likes of this horse to freshen them up. We bring them for a little walk up to their knees which is good for them. We wouldn't have run him unless we knew he was 100% and we'll get him home now and mind him. There are a few weeks left in the point-to-point season but we'll do what is right by the horse. We will have to look for these races and possibly the La Touche next year for him. Poor Eoin Mahon has done all the work with this horse but unfortunately is injured this week. We have the got the best of Rob James' 7lb claim this week and this is absolutely brilliant.

It’s the first time that Tiernan rode for me and he gave him a lovely ride. I told him to try and keep him on the bridle for as long as he could and come with one run. I thought the ground was gone on him. He’s better on better ground and that’s the first time that he’s won on that sort of ground. He jumped for fun and it’s a great pot to win. He’s been on the go all summer and will go on his holidays now. We’ll have him back in the spring maybe for Punchestown.

He is a lovely horse, Gerry Hogan recommended him from Pat Doyle's and he is owned by a new syndicate to the game so I'm delighted for them. He likes that good ground and previously hated that bottomless ground (in January). Rachael gave him a lovely spin in Kilbeggan last month where he ran well and he probably came on from that. My plan was always to get to a fence sooner rather than later. Darragh has been great, has been for years and it is lovely to see him get the kind of start he has got since Rachael finished up. He is a super horse to get and thanks to Dessie (McDonogh, previous trainer) as well, as he had all the hard work done. I just had to change a few things with him. It's funny as, at home, he works unbelievably well and, obviously, with his name (translated to JP McManus' home county of Limerick), he must have been showing that as a young horse. His jumping has let him down at times, but he got into a lovely rhythm today. I wasn't sure if stepping him up to the 0-130 grade was the right thing to do, but there was nothing else for him. The race fell apart with two fallers at the first, but you can only go and win. He seems versatile ground-wise and, like a lot of those older horses, maybe a change of yard rekindles things a bit. In For The Night finished third here yesterday, also for JP, so they are two lucky horses for us to have.

He had a promising run on his return when finishing fourth at Navan and he’s come on a little bit from it. I was a little bit concerned about the ground today, but he handled it well and it’s brilliant to get a winner here at Christmas for JP. It’s been a while since we had a Christmas winner and we’re over the moon. It seemed to go pretty straight forward and it’s nice to get it. Hopefully he might come back here for the Dublin Racing Festival. We’ll see how it goes between now and then and have a chat with Frank (Berry, racing manager).

I was a bit worried about the ground, but it was a good performance. He showed a good attitude and is a nice horse. He’s a big strong horse that will jump a fence in time. He’s qualified now for the final of this series at Punchestown and knowing me, he’ll probably run again before then. That was brilliant and I'm delighted for Seamus and the family, who have put a lot of belief in me. They have stuck with me so long and I believe this horse is much better than what he has shown so far. I'm from Germany, have been in Ireland nearly 13 years and have a show-jumping background. I decided to change at the end of 2012 and came across Mark Molloy (trainer) who asked me had I ever ridden a thoroughbred and I said no, so stayed with him and fell in love with the point-to-pointers. I learned a lot from Mark and then moved to Henry De Bromhead where I also learned a lot, so then jumped and did it on my own. I'm mainly focused on point-to-pointers, only have a couple of runners for the track and am based in Nenagh, in Tom Hogan's yard. I have loads of young stock coming along and have plenty good owners so without them I couldn't do it. Seamus and his family are from Ballina/Killaloe and I have a couple of young horses for them too so this is brilliant.

His mark over hurdles was tempting and he’s after coming to himself. We were disappointed for a while over hurdles, but fences seem to have changed him and he’s after getting to like the job. I thought Brendan (Keogh, owner) was coming over and I said I’d run the two of them, but the other horse (I’m Slippy) was disappointing. I was a bit concerned about the ground for this horse, but Phillip said he handled it very well. I suppose he was entitled to win off his mark once that improvement was there compared to his hurdle runs before. I’d imagine he’ll probably go back over fences.

Myself and my father had been keeping a close eye on him (since Wexford). My father left him out in the field for the full day and we watched him. He seemed in good spirits. He went out and he won on Saturday. Went out in the field on Sunday. He did two laps of the gallop Monday and two laps on Tuesday. Then out in the field for the rest of the day. I’m delighted. The owners are a great bunch of lads from south Kilkenny. To have the winner at Wexford the other day, and here at Tramore, is a dream.
