Colin said he was going to sit a bit closer and have one go at him (Broome). He felt he went too soon for him the last day and he felt he did again today. He has an electrifying turn of speed but lasted it out. It was a brilliant ride. He’s been a pleasure to train and doesn’t take a lot of work. I couldn’t believe how well he was travelling, and jumping so well. He kept himself in the race without having any effort. He got over the last two and then just seemed to saunter up the hill. It was amazing how well he was travelling. I was disappointed with my other three, they just went out like lights coming up the hill. Some horses don’t handle Galway, but this is obviously a fella I’ll be bringing back to Galway year after year. It was a really open race and when people were considering that he was maybe our fourth choice you can see why he was 20-1.

She’s a good mare. We were hoping for a good run, but after the last day it was just hard to say. He thought there was no advantage to keeping out, she loves the good ground. We were happy with her all through the race. She’d be a strong enough stayer and she’s very genuine. It’s great to get it, they are lucky owners for me. I don’t know what programme there is for her, I’d say she wouldn’t be overly well handicapped either.

Her dam won twice in Wexford and won three overall. She also got Grade 3 black type. This is the first foal out of her and while she is not a big mare, she is a lot bigger than the dam who was tiny. She was ready to run in May and we let her out because the ground went too quick. She is actually not that long back in and I thought she might need the run, but because it's so close to home we said we'd come here and maybe in three weeks time go to Ballinrobe for the four-year-old fillies bumper. She is after winning now so we might go for the mares winners' race in Down Royal or go straight to the Listed bumper at Gowran. If the ground is okay she will probably go to Down Royal before Gowran. My father (Charlie) bought the granddam (Party Woman) as a foal and she won three times before she chipped a bone in her knee. I was a little bit disappointed in Bellewstown (eighth) because he was a bit keen. I was glad Paddy went on with him there at halfway because if he gets to relax, he finishes out the trip, obviously, like any horse. Paddy said they were going slow at halfway, so he just decided to go on and inject a bit of pace. He knew he would stay well up the hill, so it worked out well. It was a good run in Bellewstown and obviously the race did work out very well (winner Putapouninthejar followed up in the Galway Hurdle). He does it like here and his other wins were in Kilbeggan - something similar, righthanded. We'll see what is there next for him. We'll see what the handicapper does and freshen him up.

He very seldom runs a bad race, he’s always running respectably,. That was his first time wearing cheekpieces over hurdles and I think that helped him out today. It probably wasn’t the strongest of races, we were considering whether to run him or not with the ground but he ran grand. He’s consistent but struggles a bit to get his head in front. Hopefully he’ll go on from there and he’ll keep tipping away in handicaps. I think once the ground isn’t too tacky he gets away with it. It’s definitely loose out there with the rain that came. He might go back on the Flat now and then we could give him another run over hurdles before the real winter ground.

He then bumped into a really smart horse (I’ll Sort That) of Declan Queally’s in Listowel and coming here with his weight, the race was his to lose and I couldn’t see him getting beaten. Watching it, I was worried as there was no real gallop on and thought he’d want a stiff two miles but Gary picked up the running far out. To get another winner is super but I’m more delighted with our bumper horses recently, as they are the ones you want to build on this.
