Good things come in small parcels. He was bred by the starter (Joe Banahan) and he’s a half-brother to Sheishybrid. His other half-brother (Athlumney Warrior) won for Michael O’Callaghan on the all-weather. It’s a good family and has been lucky for us. He’ll mix it between the Flat and jumping and I’m hoping he might get one of the good Flat handicaps somewhere during the summer. He’s not very big but he carried 11-12 there and he jumps brilliant. I always said he was too small to be jumping but the first day we schooled him all he wanted to do was go. I’m sure the better ground will be a help to him.

he is a fine big horse, he was always nice since he was younger but just has had a few problems. They have nursed him back and he had a lovely run in a bumper in Gowran the last day, where Aine Connolly gave him a beautiful ride and said he’d come on a lot from it. He had run in a point-to-point (in 2024) and had a lot of schooling done so we were hoping he’d run a good race. I’m not sure what they’ll do now as Josh is a seller but he’ll have no problem jumping fences too.

He’s only had four runs over hurdles since he won a good pot in Kelso. Every year he’d win on the Flat. He was never going down but he’d just improve a little bit to win. You could set your clock by him as he’d always win once a year. He’s getting a bit older and I’d said I’d chance it. I don’t like running in claimers but he’s at that age and going back to a handicap he’s going to be in no man’s land. He enjoyed that and when he’s enjoying things he can do it very easy. These races give those older horses a chance of going and doing something again. The fact that he had a couple of runs on the Flat, going back over hurdles then he’s just that bit sharper. He travelled a bit easier in the race. I’m delighted with him.

He had run well in Navan the last day and he jumped unreal today. He travelled everywhere, we didn’t go a mad gallop and that allowed me to be up with the pace, which suited. Hopefully there might be another day in him now. This is always what I wanted to do, so I’ll keep the head down now. I ride mostly in point-to-points, work for Colin Bowe and school for various other trainers. I had my second point-to-point winner just last Sunday so it has been a good few days. She stays well and jumps well, but I wasn't happy the two hurdles were taken out because she's a great jumper,. It was a disadvantage to her. She was going well and Conor just tipped her on. She ran well in Roscommon the last day and got kind of caught back and they just quickened on her. I wouldn't blame the ground; it was just a tighter track and they went a bit steady and got first run on her. We were happy with the run and there wasn't a bother on her after the race. She has come good. We tweaked her wind and she won two - it was just a small procedure. I had her entered in a chase but she wasn't getting in in Wexford, so we would love to send her over fences straight away. She's a great jumper and we have her schooling over fences once a week. We are looking forward to that.

He's a lazy gent. I thought with the heavy rain that came it wouldn't help him,. I thought he wanted better ground but he handled that well so I'm not so sure I was right. Phillip said he wouldn't handle heavy ground. The blinkers helped him as he was very sleepy in his races. Even when he hit the front today Phillip had to keep after him, he wouldn't do a whole pile. It's a good way to be. He holds condition, he does the same work as any other horse at home but at the same him he carries weight. He stands in the stable, eats everything and jog around the gallop at home. You'd say he wasn't put the effort in but hopefully that will all change after getting his head in front. I know the race cut up but I thought he had come on a good bit and he kept going. We'll go for another handicap and he can jump a fence as well.
