Jaime Sommers It was a bit of a surprise. She had been disappointing so far this season but she takes a good few runs to get fit. Ruth rode the race to perfection. She kept out of the chopped-up ground as the other two took on each other. Fair play to Ruth, she rode a fantastic race. We tried the cheekpieces on her the last time and they seemed to have improved her and this was her second time to wear them. It's great to win with her on the Flat as she ran out of options over hurdles and fences. She was badly handicapped, she was just caught. She had her first run on the Flat at the Curragh but she didn't like the stalls, so the flag start here was ideal for her, this race was really ideal for her. She loves Tramore and was placed the other two times she ran here. It wasn't a total surprise as the track suited and the ground dried up a bit. We definitely won't go over fences with her again. I wouldn't risk her as she is the only filly I have out of Solerina. She is entered on Saturday in a maiden but is not eligible now. I'd like to see what the handicapper gives her and maybe go for something at the end of the season on the Flat. Her mother won three Flat races so it's great that she has now as well. She has now won over fences, hurdles and on the level. Solerina is twenty-two now and is in-foal to Walk In The Park. I think she has nine foals so far and she is great form.

Somethinboutangela She was in front a bit early but she travels so well and the last day things didn't go right. She had a good run previously at Tramore when she jumped a bit high but is starting to jump fluently now. She can drop down in trip and will be a grand mare to go chasing. The owners are from Galway and she might go there as she is a fun mare and we'll make the most of it. The owners were in hard luck last year with Hurricane Ben being killed. I only have two horses in for the summer and there is a 5,000 euro bonus today, so that is the icing on the cake.

Lakemilan She ran at Bellewstown in a race which was a qualifier for the Galway Hurdle but that didn't work out and we were well beaten on the day. I don't know for what reason but she didn't travel and never got into it. She runs well around here and she seemed fresh enough so we left her take her chance here. Kevin said he felt he was going to win the whole way. We messed it up a few times with her by getting caught in behind and then going out in front but this time it was a peach of a ride. We'll come back here again in August.

Mac N Cheese That's brilliant and I'm delighted for Brien as it's his birthday as well. What can I say they are just running well. It's worked out great with this horse as he was cheap buy. He has won over fences and is after winning there now. He will probably go for the Galway Blazers now.

Macgiloney That was brilliant. He was gutsy and loved the battle,. When I entered him I wasn't sure was I going to be able to run with the ratings but if you don't run them you don't win anything. I don't think the handicapper can react too much because I went through the form of the others and their ratings had maybe been got through good placing by Gordon. I didn't think in a handicap that they would have run to marks in the 130s. I'm thrilled with this lad. He's always had a big future and he's still improving all the time. Chasing will be the job long term. He's owned by some good guys, Michael Moloney, Pat Gilmartin and John Gilmartin. They've been with me a long time. He won a bumper here last year and he's been placed a lot of times. They've got some great days out of him. He'll go to Galway now, whether he runs in the three-mile handicap or the two-and-a-half novice. Killarney might come a bit soon. He's a nice horse to have going forward. He wants all of that three miles. We didn't go mad there so I had to get involved a bit sooner than ideal but it worked out well.

Savina She raced fairly green. There was a real good pace and that played to her advantage as she is from a lovely staying pedigree. Her pedigree and her stamina came to the fore and she galloped on to the end. I'd be looking forward to going over hurdles with her over a trip I think and she'll stay going now for the summer.

Brogine She was game and we knew from her work at home she was going to give us a good run, even though she hadn't run in 12 months,. This is a lucky track for her. She won her bumper here and was second on her first run over hurdles here so we were very hopeful coming today. She's in at Limerick on Thursday and she'll run if she's okay because there isn't a race for her for maybe six weeks after that. We'll wait and see. She's a summer mare and she'd like the ground even a little bit better than it was today. It was good ground and she's even be better on top of the ground.

Mac N Cheese I bought him for just 4,000 pounds (in January) on the advice of Tom Malone. He actually ran a grand race in Fairyhouse. He plunged on the way to the start with David Mullins and his reins got caught up in the breast girth. It looked like he was jumping left all the time but he just couldn't steer him. He also ran a nice race here at the Festival.

Macgiloney He could have jumped a bit better, and I really had to ask him at a lot of the hurdles. Coming out of the back I always thought that I’d get there but then Jack (Kennedy, on Foxy Jacks) slipped a few lengths on me and Bryan (Cooper)’s horse (Asbury Boss) broke down and I was lucky to get by him. This is a nice horse and he won two bumpers last year. He’s always been threatening to do that but he needs a trip. Even over two and a half miles you are always on your head, and three miles around here was ideal. The beauty of now is that he’s a novice for all of this season and those rated novice races will suit him. We’ve had five winners in the last ten days and it’s great when they are running well. There is a good buzz about the yard.

The Brass Man He was idling a bit in front and I think he is very good. He is a little bit of a baby still and he is homebred by myself and Peter Magnier and Tom Furlong has a third-share. It would have been nice to have had Peter here today (passed away in January). He was a great contact for the yard, was a big owner and a great friend. He is a big loss. This horse is for the sales at Doncaster - I'd love to be able to afford to keep him as I rate him very highly but probably won't be able to.

Blue Templar We had a great start and we're after having a great finish, in between just wasn't great,. It's great for Ray Barron, who is with us and he's a very hard worker. He rides a lot of the young horses and gets them going so that is his reward. Having a winner at the festival in these races is great and we saw Peter Maher getting his name on the La Touche the other day. We're all kind of smallish trainers and I'm grateful to Mr McManus to let me do this with these horses. That's what I love and the riders love riding around there. Blue Templar could be a nice horse for the La Touche next year. He loves the ground and Ray said out in front he was pricking his ears. All he can do is win. The owner has been patient as he was an eight-year-old maiden coming here on Tuesday. It's paid off now with two wins here this week. He's only rated 89 or 90 over fences but once he sees a bank he excels at it. Unfortunately Josie Orders is paying for his success, with 12-7 and that's telling on him a good bit. He'll have a lesser penalty next year and he's also a soft ground horse. We're happy, we've had a good week with two winners.

Blue Templar I just said to the owner he’s a patient man as he's an eight year-old maiden! The other horse (Youcannotbeserious) is classier but the experience around here told. We’ll see how he is but he may come here for the La Touche on Thursday. He seems to be fine and fresh, and he ran twice last year as well. The ground is not too taxing either. It gets the week off to a good start.
